Mirel Wagner Signs to Sub Pop for Sophomore Album

Sub Pop has once again expanded its global reach, having announced that the label will soon be delivering a new album from sparse and spectral Finnish folk singer Mirel Wagner.

The label confirmed the signing today (February 4), noting that an as-yet-detailed LP from the artist should arrive sometime this summer. The record will follow Wagner's self-titled debut from 2012, which had been issued through Friendly Fire Recordings, and garnered acclaim over its subtle, minimalist folk direction and "subversive lyricism that touches on themes of love and death."

While details on her sophomore set have yet to arrive beyond the loose due date, press material posits that Wagner's gloomy direction is informed by moody songwriters such as Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake.

As we wait for more info to arrive behind the upcoming LP, you can check out the haunting, finger-picked and whispered "No Death" in the player down below.
