Slowdive/Mogwai Offshoot Minor Victories Announce Debut Album

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Feb 22, 2016

Last summer, Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite, Slowdive's Rachel Goswell and Editors' Justin Lockey and his brother James revealed that they had formed a new band called Minor Victories, then shared an album trailer for a record that had no firm release plans — until now.

Speaking to Exclaim! last fall, Braithwaite hinted that the record would arrive "early next year," and it has now been confirmed that a self-titled album is due out on June 3 through Fat Possum/PIAS.

As previously reported, the record was made with producer Tony Doogan. The band have now announced that Mark Kozelek and the Twilight Sad's James Graham each have a guest credit on the new material.

"Some of it is really epic, but then some is really concise as well," Braithwaite told Exclaim! "To be honest, I think if you know the music that all of us have made, it won't really surprise you. It has a lot of the good elements from everyone's band. I think people are going to like it."

You can get the first sampling of Minor Victories by watching the video for album cut "A Hundred Ropes" in the player below. It features a band of samurai warriors charging ominously towards the camera and was made by Justin and James Lockey.
