METZ Reveal 'Strange Peace' LP, Share "Cellophane"

The band will also take the new album out on tour

In addition to treating their previous releases to fancy expanded vinyl editions, Toronto noisemakers METZ have been hinting at a new LP on the horizon. Well, they've confirmed that the new record will be arriving this fall, and they've even given us a preview of what's to come.

Titled Strange Peace, the album is due out on September 22 via Royal Mountain Records/Sub Pop. The album artwork is pictured above, while a complete tracklisting can be found down below. It marks the Toronto three-piece's third studio album, following up 2015's II.

The LP was recorded in Chicago with producer Steve Albini. In an attempt to capture the intense energy of their live performance, the new tracks were recorded live off the floor to tape. Additional instrumentation and finishing touches were completed back home in Toronto with longtime collaborator, engineer and mixer Graham Walsh.

"Strange Peace isn't merely a collection of eleven uninhibited and urgent songs," a press release reads. "It's also a kind of sonic venting, a truculent social commentary that bludgeons and provokes, excites and unsettles."

The band are letting us hear what that sounds like with a brand new single called "Cellophane." True to METZ form, it's a blast of melodic noise, an aural attack on all fronts; screeching guitars burst through walls of fuzz, pummelling drums drive right into your skull, and that's all topped off with delightfully brash vocals.

Give it a listen below.
