In 2013, Metric released a companion app for their 2012 album Synthetica. Now, with an album called Pagans in Vegas due out on September 18, the Canadian band have rolled out another app. This one is called The Pagan Portal, and it was released today (July 16) for free.
The app will give fans access to exclusives and freebies, including pre-sale tickets, contests, discounts and early song streams. Previously unreleased cuts "The Shade" and "Cascades" are on there, as is a new song called "Too Bad, So Sad." That new track will be exclusive to the app for at least a week.
In the weeks leading up to Pagans in Vegas, new songs will be unlocked on the app, allowing users to hear the music before it's available elsewhere.
In a statement, singer-keyboardist Emily Haines said that Metric want this app to have a longer lifespan than the prior Synthetica app. She said, "We wanted to make something that would serve as a dedicated platform with a life of its own, a way to reward our biggest fans with first access to everything new we create in the future. Right now it's all about unveiling Pagans in Vegas and giving our listeners a chance to hear that music before anyone else, but our intention is for it to evolve well beyond that. I imagine The Pagan Portal being the place where we preview all of our new music first."
