Metric have been talking about their upcoming album since last summer, and the celebrated Toronto band have finally detailed their latest full-length. Entitled Synthetica, this follow-up to 2009's wildly successful Fantasies is due to arrive on June 12 via the band's own Metric Music International.
Produced by guitarist Jimmy Shaw and mixed by returning collaborator John O'Mahony, the album was recorded at Toronto's Giant Studios and New York's iconic Electric Lady Studios.
A press release describes the album as an "enthralling balance of futuristic and organic sound." Shaw said in a statement that the album is "the culmination of everything we've done. We've always had a sound in our heads that we hoped to realize. We finally heard it coming back out of the speakers this time."
Singer Emily Haines came up with the title as a name for what's described as a "particularly resilient skin-job from Blade Runner, a female replicant who voices an inner monologue of all your human imperfections."
She explained, "If you imagine a nightmarishly fake version of me as a pop star, that's her. And this record was about me saying, I'm going to give more to the music than ever, but there's no way I'm going to turn into someone like that."
