Metallica Share Second Movie Trailer, Plan to Write and Record New LP Next Year

This weekend's San Diego Comic Con offered no shortage of exciting news for movie, television and comic book fans, but there was also some music news buried in there too. According to Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, the band will dedicate all of 2014 working on their next album.

At a panel to promote the band's upcoming 3D film Through the Never, Ulrich explained that they're dedicated to completing their follow-up to 2009's Death Magnetic as soon as possible.

According to Faster Louder, Ulrich said, "We've had a couple of jams at HQ. [Next year] we'll be all about a new Metallica record.... In about another year and a half you'll probably see one."

That's a long time to wait for a hypothetical new album, but fans can look forward to Through the Never in the meantime. The band shared a second trailer from the release, which you can view below. The apocalyptic narrative looks to be a central theme to the film, with no shortage of explosions, chase scenes and, well, guitar solos.

The film will be released on IMAX screens this fall.
