Metallica have been talking about their upcoming 3D film for some time now, and the veteran metal band have finally confirmed the details of the flick. Entitled Metallica Through the Never, it will arrive in cinemas on August 9 through Picturehouse.

A press release reveals that Metallica Through the Never will be more than just a standard concert film, since it has a plot and actors. It stars Dane DeHaan from the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The synopsis is as follows: "DeHaan plays a young band crew member who is sent out on an urgent mission while the band is playing a rousing live set in front of a sold-out crowd and unexpectedly finds his world turned completely upside down."

It was written and directed by Nimród Antal (Kontroll, Predators). Drummer Lars Ulrich previously said, "I've been a fan of Nimrod's since his first Hungarian film, Kontroll, showed up at Cannes in 2004 and blew everybody away. I've watched with excitement his career in Hollywood blossom over the last few years. Within five minutes of meeting him I was addicted to his enthusiasm, his take on the creative process and his 'thinking outside of the box' personality. Let's get on with it!!!"

The concert footage from Metallica Through the Never was filmed over three nights in Vancouver last August.
