Durham, NC-based trio Megafaun already have two excellent albums under their belts: 2007's Bury the Square and last year's Gather, Form & Fly. Despite some great critical reception, the band have not quite had the mainstream breakthrough of their friends and collaborators in Bon Iver and Akron/Family. Hopefully that will change when they release their new mini-album this summer.
The upcoming record is called Heretofore, and contains six songs in 36 minutes. In a press release, front-man Brad Cook said, "I feel like it's the best hooks and lyrics that we've done... but it also has the most far-reaching stuff we've ever put on a record."
The mini-album doesn't have a release date yet, but it's due this summer from Hometapes. The band are also rumoured to be working on a full-length release for the fall.
Perhaps all of this new material will be showcased when they embark on a full North American tour this spring. The large run of dates, which covers much of the United States, will also include Canadian stops in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
