The Measure

'Nine Songs 1997'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 7, 2013

BC ex-pat Jack Duckworth is currently crafting tunes for his dark electro project Soft Riot, reportedly working on a follow-up to his debut LP No Longer Stranger, but the London-based musician recently found himself in a nostalgic enough mood to post a demo from his old band the Measure.

The Vancouver quintet, which existed between 1997 and 1998, included Duckworth on guitar, future Radio Berlin collaborator Chris Frey on vocals and future Black Mountain bassist Matt Camirand, among others. The nine-song demo blends the herky-jerk post-hardcore of the Monorchid with influences like the Jesus Lizard, the Birthday Party and more.

You can download the whole set here, but make sure you check out "Giovanni," which evolves from elegant and intricate emo guitar interplay to a full-on dance freakout.
