Coming in the wake of last year's Once Upon a Hell of a Time…, Canadian songwriting hero Matt Mays is returning with an acoustic companion album. Appropriately titled Twice Upon a Hell of a Time..., the newly reimagined record will arrive via Sonic Records/Warner Music on October 19.
By the sounds of things, the new album will present a darker listening experience than its predecessor.
"Once Upon a Hell of a Time... is a Saturday night record," said Mays in a statement. "This version is for the hangover on Sunday."
A press release adds, "Recontextualizing the songs offers a new window into the lyrics. What he once described as a 'party-rock record for the brokenhearted' transforms into a reflective and beautiful dive into false escapism, grief, love, and loss."
