He'll leave 'Metro Morning' after "Sounds of the Season" on December 6

Matt Galloway has been announced as the new host of CBC radio show The Current.

The broadcaster will continue to greet morning listeners — but a few hours later than they're used to. He will be moving from his longtime position as host of Metro Morning from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. each morning to The Current's 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. timeslot.

Galloway will continue his run on Metro Morning until December 6. The annual holiday show "Sounds of the Season" will mark his last day as the host of the Toronto-based early morning show.

Laura Lynch will continue as the interim anchor of The Current until then.

Galloway has worked at CBC for 15 years, taking over the host role on Metro Morning in 2010.

"I've been getting out of bed at 3:00 in the morning to hop on my bike and greet Toronto listeners on the airwaves for the last decade," he said in a statement. "I'm looking forward to being part of the big stories in Canada today, and diving into the international topics that I'm always curious about. There is no greater thrill than talking every morning about the city you live in, and radio is still one of the best ways to do that."
