Matt Elliott

"What's Wrong”

BY Cam LindsayPublished Apr 27, 2005

Formerly known as Third Eye Foundation and the black sheep of Merge Records' roster, Matt Elliott has taken a bit of a U-turn in his artistic direction and decided to depress people instead of scaring them. Gone is the dark and punishing drill & bass and in its place a lonesome piano and some morose vocals to give a real dive bar experience. Taken from the aptly titled Drinking Songs (issued through Spain's Acuarela Records and France's Ici D'Ailleurs Records), "What's Wrong” is moody drunken folk. Needless to say, it isn't wedding music, but it sure will help kill the pain when you're hitting the sauce by yourself. (www.icidailleurs.com/ra/whatswrong.ram)
