Noted pharmavillain Martin Shkreli is facing 20 years in prison after being found guilty of fraud early last month. In the wake of his conviction, he's now selling his one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang Clan album.
Shkreli has posted the hip-hop crew's Once Upon a Time in Shaolin on eBay for people to bid on. As of press time, the leading bid on the disc is $97,900 USD, with the auction set to run through September 15. Bidding on the disc reportedly started at $1 USD.
Shkreli famously bought the record back in December of 2015 for a price in the $2 million range. The Wu-Tang Clan's RZA "decided to give a significant portion of the proceeds to charity" after learning about Shkreli's overnight price gouging of AIDS and cancer drug Daraprim earlier that year. On the eBay page, Shkreli noted that half the sale proceeds will be donated to medical research.
"I decided to purchase this album as a gift to the Wu-Tang Clan for their tremendous musical output," Shkreli wrote on the auction page. "Instead I received scorn from at least one of their (least-intelligent) members, and the world at large failed to see my purpose of putting a serious value behind music. I will be curious to see if the world values music nearly as much as I have."
He continued: "Upon sale, I will represent & warranty any copies of the music I have will be destroyed. I have not carefully listened to the album, which is a double CD. There is also a finely crafted booklet which you can read about elsewhere. I will pay legal expenses for the buyer up to $25,000 to ensure the final purchase details are mutually agreeable."
While he didn't end up getting his hands on Lil B's Black Ken mixtape after all, we'll keep our eyes glued to the eBay page in case his alleged copy of Lil Wayne's Tha Carter V makes an appearance.
