Mark Lanegan Is Releasing a Holiday Album for Your Sure-to-Be-Dark Christmas 2020

While it's unclear how Christmas will play out this year due to COVID-19, chances are it's going to be more than a little messed up. Luckily, though, sad-sack songwriter Mark Lanegan is stepping up to help soundtrack the inevitable holiday darkness with his very own Christmas album.

The record will be released under Lanegan's Dark Mark moniker and will simply be titled Dark Mark Does Christmas 2020.

The album will include five track from his tour-only Xmas 12-inch from 2012, in addition to five newly added songs. These include Lanegan yuletide originals, as well as covers of the Everley Brothers' "Christmas Eve Can Kill You" and Roky Erickson's "Burn the Flames."

As a press release states: "2020 is going be a dark Christmas." So you better have the right soundtrack for it, right?

Dark Mark Does Christmas 2020 will be released on December 4 on vinyl and CD, and you can pre-order now at Rough Trade. It's unclear at this point if it's a Rough Trade exclusive or a wide release.

Lanegan's most recent effort was this year's Straight Songs of Sorrow — an album that arrived alongside his recent memoir Sing Backwards and Weep.
