Mariah Carey Is Making Millions on Streams of "All I Want for Christmas Is You"

Even Spotify's crappy payment structure can't keep the Queen of Christmas down

At this point, Christmas belongs to Mariah Carey as much as (if not more so) than it does Santa Claus himself.

That's great for us — "All I Want for Christmas Is You" still bangs, Mariah Carey is an icon forever — and it's even better for Mariah, who's been racking up millions of dollars from Spotify on the strength of her Christmas classic, despite the streamer's vampiric payment structure.

According to figures provided to TMZ, Carey has made somewhere between $3,249,600 and $4,332,800 USD from the single alone. Artists make between .003 to .004 cents per single stream on Spotify (insane, evil) so that puts streams of "All I Want for Christmas Is You" in the echelon of over one billion.

That number is only going to get bigger in the coming years, particularly as it seems that the popularity of "All I Want for Christmas Is You" — and Carey's association with Christmas — is growing each year. It's currently No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the third year in a row after first hitting the Hot 100's top ten (at No. 3) for the first time in 2017.

Yay rich people! By all means, continue to stream "All I Want for Christmas Is You," but maybe also spend some coin on some merch or vinyl records from your favourite non-millionaire artists this holiday season.

Revisit "All I Want for Christmas Is You" below, as if you haven't heard it 100 times already this year.
