Mares of Thrace Lose Original Drummer, Forge On with New Member

Calgary metal duo Mares of Thrace released their Sonic Unyon debut The Pilgrimage earlier this year to wide acclaim, even landing a spot on the Polaris long list. Despite the accolades, the band will be switching up lineups, as original drummer Stef MacKichan has decided to leave the group to pursue her education.

Taking to the band's Facebook page, frontwoman Thérèse Lanz insisted that things were entirely amicable with the following statement:

Hello Everyone. So. Due to getting into the educational program of her dreams and its subsequent conflicts with touring, Stef has decided to step down. She is, as the Dothraki from Game of Thrones say, blood of my blood, I love her very very much and I promise I will keep you posted on her future musical projects, which will probably be very Meshuggah-like. However. I am very happy to announce that Rae Fucking Amitay will be playing in Mares of Thrace going forward. She is a Berklee School of Music-trained, metal session-playing, former aspiring Lovecraftian scholar and giant nerd, so please fling all your most unflattering granny panties at her.

Lanz went on to post a video of Amitay performing Allagaeon's "Biomech," which can be viewed below.

Mares of Thrace's new lineup will debut immediately with a batch of American tour dates, which will also feature the group playing with bassist Scott Shellhammer. The full itinerary can be viewed here.
