Major Lazer

"Hold the Line" (Featuring Santigold and Mr. Lex)

Over at the Mad Decent blog, Diplo has once again tipped another record set to cause some ripples across many dance floors. Major Lazer is the name and boy does this dude have some history. Apparently a "Jamaican commando who lost his arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984," he was rescued by the U.S. military, which "repurposed experimental lazers as prosthetic limbs," or so claims his bio, which goes on to say that he's also been hired as a "renegade soldier for a rogue government operating in secrecy underneath the watch of M5 and the CIA." And now he's doing crazy shit to dancehall.

With Diplo and Switch at his side, he made an album at Tuff Gong that Downtown (Santigold, Gnarls Barkley) are set to release on June 16 called Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do, which also includes guests like Nina Sky, Amanda Blank, Vybz Kartel, T.O.K. and Mr Vegas all helping the "vampire-battling soldier with a laser for an arm." Described as "Dick Dale bogling with Bounty Killer," first single "Hold the Line" is a ragga rampage teeming with rumbling surf guitar, cellphone noise and puckered lips, not to mention the hyper calls of Santigold and Mr. Lex.
