Mac DeMarco

"Just the Way You Are" (Billy Joel cover)

Despite his oft-goofy aura, BC-born singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco is a master of stone-cold smoothness. Fittingly, ahead of tonight's (February 15) Grammy Awards in L.A., footage of the Pepperoni Playboy performing a live version of Billy Joel's super schmaltzy, award-winning ballad, "Just the Way You Are," has surfaced online.

The performance took place last night at a Planned Parenthood benefit held at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg, with DeMarco gently strumming out the melody on an acoustic guitar.

Unlike the 1977 original, the song features no sax, but comes equipped with plenty of cat-calling crowd chatter. DeMarco, meanwhile, sings the song like a god damned angel.

A familiar look at something from The Stranger, you'll find the fan-shot footage of DeMarco's tender run-through of the warts-and-all anthem below.
