Luke Steele Sets Aim on New Albums by Empire of the Sun, the Sleepy Jackson and New Punk Side-Project in 2010

Eccentric Aussie songwriter Luke Steele has had a busy few years balancing his bands Empire of the Sun and the Sleepy Jackson, and it seems to be taking a toll on his interview consistency. First, he said the Sleepy Jackson were done so he could focus on Empire of the Sun. Then, he said that the Sleepy Jackson were resurrected, but not to expect a new album in 2010. Now, he's saying that the Sleepy Jackson, Empire of the Sun and a new punk band will all be releasing new albums this year.

In a recent interview with NME, Steele dropped hints about all three records. Since losing co-conspirator Nick Littlemore last year, Steele has forged on with Empire of the Sun as a solo project. Regarding their sophomore effort, he said, "Some of it is like Mylo and a bit more Prince. It's dramatic."

Steele went on to briefly describe the next Sleepy Jackson record, saying that it will contain "classic songs the whole way through." He then unveiled a new project called Icon Python, his "punk rock thing."

"I'm really excited about that one because it starts on the blues and I just go rad on it," he explained of Icon Python.

While we believe that Steele is a solid enough songwriter to make any of these three albums good, we would prefer to see him focus his energy on one album at a time. After all, there's no point of chatting up these albums if we never get to hear them.
