Lou Bega's "Mambo No. 5" Pairs a Little Too Well with Green Day's "Holiday"

A little bit of Mike Dirnt in the sun

From Smash Mouth to steamed hams, it's not unreasonable to think that ironic internet mashups have reached their nadir. But every once in a while, a stupid idea surfaces that reignites our love of the genre. Enter this new crossbreed of Lou Bega and Green Day.

On paper, the 1999 classic "Mambo No. 5" is a strange bedfellow for Green Day's "Holiday," but as he proved with Monica, Erica, Rita, Tina et al., Bega can really make it work with anyone.

DJ Cummerbund's mashup of the songs doesn't rely on atonal stretches or self-aware jokes. Instead, it's a straight-faced and near-perfect combination, which only serves to make its very existence that much funnier.

Listen to the song, complete with a similarly sincere video, below.
