Lost Soul

Scream of the Mourning Star

BY Greg PrattPublished Feb 1, 2001

This is another release that has already been issued overseas and Relapse licensed it for North America. There's nothing overtly bad about this disc, it's solid, well-played death metal, but it offers nothing new, which at this point, a death metal band must do if they want to have their albums listened to more than once. The songs are executed nicely, the production sounds great, the artwork and layout looks classy and the lyrics are the standard vague, evil death metal fare. So it's adequate, standard and nice, but it's too bad there's nothing in the songs to keep my attention or, more importantly, make me remember what I just heard two minutes after disc's end.
