Loscil

'City Hospital' (album stream)

Vancouver ambient musician Loscil is gearing up for the re-release of a four-song collection entitled City Hospital on May 13, but you can hear it right here now.

As previously reported, the record originally dropped last year via Irish-Canadian imprint Wist Rec., as part of its Book Report Series, and quickly sold out in the process. The series pairs musical releases with works of literature, serving as a soundtrack to the books. Loscil's City Hospital was intended as an accompaniment to Malcolm Lowry's Lunar Caustic.

The new pressing of the album, however, will feature revamped artwork and packaging, which finds the three-inch CD-R encased in a hand-stamped jackdaw-style folder.

According to a press release, the music charts "the unsteady memories and shifting surroundings of protagonist Bill Plantagenet as he recovers from an alcoholic-fuelled breakdown in the City Hospital." It continues to divulge that the artist's "observations are presented through maps, photos and postcards from the era" in what is deemed a "psycho-geography."

A pressing of 350 copies will be available through Vancouver shops Red Cat and Zulu, or online at Wist Rec. and Stashed Goods.

But before you try your luck at nabbing a physical copy, give City Hospital an advanced listen in the player below.
