Los Campesinos! ought to be riding high after the release of their third album, Romance Is Boring, which came out earlier this year through Arts & Crafts. Unfortunately, the Welsh twee pop outfit are now short a member, as drummer Ollie Campesinos! has announced his departure from the group in an emotional statement posted on the band's website (via NME).
The message reads a bit like a Dear John letter, beginning, "This is one of the hardest things I've ever had to write." He goes on to say, "I want to thank everyone that we have ever worked with. Without your hard work we wouldn't have done all these things. Thank you to every band I have ever had the privilege of playing with. I have made some really great friends."
The drummer, who is also known for writing food reviews on LosCampesinos.com, thanked the fans and wrote, "If it weren't for you guys and gals we would have faded out a long time ago." He offered no explanation for his departure, but he's clearly still on good terms with his former band mates, writing, "It's been an amazing experience and I wouldn't have missed it for the world."
His departure could cause trouble for Los Campesinos!, who have a show coming up in less than a week at Wakestock Festival in Wales. The band have 14 festival dates over July and August, so they better get started on auditions.
