Toronto, like most other major cities, has faced a serious pinch on music venues as businesses have shuttered in the last few years. Now, however, it looks as if the east end is going to help rectify that problem with a new mid-sized venue.

According to CityNews, Live Nation has completed the necessary paperwork to launch a new music venue at 1661 Queen Street East. The venue will occupy part of a building that currently houses Champions Off-Track Betting.

A city councillor says the venue would have a capacity of 2,700 people and host up to 150 events per year. The goal is to have it open by October 2018.

Speaking with CityNews, Coun. Josh Colle said, "We're great on the smaller end of venues and, of course, we've got the big Air Canada Centres. But something like this that's kind of more mid-range is often what's identified by the industry as a gap in the Toronto venue kind of ecosystem."

Stay tuned for more details on the venue as they become available.
