Listen to Pacer's Energetic and Earnest New Single "Bangers"

Toronto alt-rockers Pacer are ringing in 2019 with a bang — just days ahead of their first show of the year, at the Horseshoe Tavern on January 11 as part of Exclaim!'s Class of 2019 concert series, the trio have dropped their second single, "Bangers."

According to the band in a statement, the song was written in the wake of a failed relationship, and is lyrically about "the difficulties of giving and accepting love." Fittingly enough, the song kicks off with a band-captured field recording of a street preacher claiming that "if there's ever a generation that's lost the ability to truly love, it's this one right here," before launching into the energetic rock track.

An earnest plea about the difficulties of communicating in a tumultuous world, the track's reverb-laden vocals and crisp guitar hooks recall the Strokes and the Replacements. "Bangers" is Pacer's follow-up to their debut single, the two-sided "Piledriver / Lose," which they released last September.

Listen to "Bangers" below. Pacer play Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern on January 11.
