Listen to Basia Bulat's Heart Of My Own Now on Exclaim.ca

Basia Bulat hasn't had much downtime since the release of her Polaris-nominated debut Oh, My Darling in 2007. But instead of letting cramped tour vans and torturously long flights across the globe get the best of her, the Toronto songwriter used the solitude to her advantage. The result was Bulat's new full-length Heart Of My Own, which will be streaming on Exclaim.ca all week long.

Released on January 26 by Secret City Records, Heart Of My Own was crafted over a year of touring that took Bulat across Europe, Australia, Canada and the United States multiple times over. Once things settled down, Bulat scooped up her newborn songs and took them to producer Howard Bilerman at Hotel2Tango in Montreal.

The Yukon was a major influence for Bulat on Heart Of My Own. The track "Gold Rush" was largely inspired by the territory. In addition, the album puts forth tempos of boisterous jubilance and hushed introspection. These sonic landscapes reflected the loud yet quiet atmosphere Bulat experienced at the Dawson City Music Festival, where she performed 2007.

Bulat has already begun her North American in support of her album. You can see all her tour dates here .

In the meantime, Heart Of My Own is streaming at Exclaim.ca until February 15.
