Lil Wayne Preps 'Tha Carter V' Release

Lil Wayne may be ready to make his exit from the rap game, with news that his reported retirement record Tha Carter V could be coming our way shortly.

News of the LP's impending arrival was delivered by Cash Money senior vice president Mel Smith, who tweeted earlier today (October 18): "Happy Friday!! New YMCMB music coming soon!! Carter 5." This is, of course, rather vague since an official street date has yet to be delivered, but it no doubt still gives Weezy's faithful something to look forward to sometime in the future.

Lil Wayne has noted in the past that the record could well be his last. This past spring, an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live found the Young Money rapper confiding, "I want to retire after Tha Carter V, which I hope would be my last album." To be fair, though, he said the same thing about Tha Carter IV in 2011.

Earlier this year, Lil Wayne delivered the fifth instalment of his Dedication mixtape series. Listen below.
