Liam Gallagher and Mark Lanegan Would Rather Fight on Twitter Than in Person

The beef stems from a Gallagher story in Lanegan's new book

Another day on Twitter in isolation means another new target for Liam Gallagher, and if you've read this far, you'll be shocked to learn it isn't brother Noel this time, but Mark Lanegan.

Ironically, the pair's war of words began over a fistfight that didn't happen, according to Lanegan's new book. In his memoir Sing Backwards and Weep, Lanegan claims Gallagher quit Oasis's 1996 U.S. tour with Screaming Trees to avoid a scrap they had planned.

It was on the trek that Gallagher had apparently mocked the name of Lanegan's band, calling them "Howling Branches." As the latter told it, "'Fuck off, you stupid fucking idiot,' was my brief, blase retort," before recalling Gallagher as "an obvious poser, a playground bully. Like all bullies, he was also a total pussy."

Lanegan wrote that he and Gallagher wound up setting a date to brawl one another during a stop in Florida, though the Oasis singer left the tour before it happened.

"He had quit and bailed before I could have a go at him before his promised playground battle royale in Miami," Lanegan continued. "Typical, I thought. That phony motherfucker had pissed his pants and gone home to mama before I had a chance to blow this whole thing up myself."

Of course, the claim found its way back to Gallagher, who couldn't resist offering his two cents online.

"Mark lannegn [sic] here's how I saw it," he wrote. "I asked you your bands name I was fucking around and called it something else you being an upiight junkie and not having a sense of humour got your little grungy knickers in a twist."

After Gallagher wrote him off as "another bullshitter trying to sell a book," Lanegan responded.

"Coke addicts are junkies too you fucking tool, the stupidest kind," he wrote. "Still trying to make like you're hard. i could have then and still could put serious hurt on you. leave it alone dickhead unless youre actually ready to finally step up."

In response to a fan, Lanegan offered, "Liam has never written a decent song by himself or wiith the teams of songwriters hired to do it for him. I would however gladly write with Noel, he was the one blessed with the talent, wit and brains in the family."

Liam recently had a pone to pick with brother Noel over the release of an unheard Oasis song.
