Las Vegas Shooter May Have Been Targeting Life Is Beautiful and Lollapalooza

Stephen Paddock had booked rooms overlooking both festivals earlier this year

Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock inflicted horrible violence upon the crowd at the Route 91 Harvest festival on Sunday night (October 1), leaving at least 59 people dead and more than 500 injured. Now, disturbing reports suggest that the Vegas festival wasn't the first event that he had targeted.

Earlier this week, The Daily Beast claimed that Paddock had rented multiple condos overlooking Life Is Beautiful Festival, which took place in Vegas from September 22 to 24. It featured acts like Chance the Rapper, Muse, Gorillaz, Lorde, Blink-182 and The xx.

Today (October 5), TMZ is reporting that the 64-year-old gunman may have also had sinister motives for Lollapalooza earlier this year. He reportedly booked two rooms overlooking Grant Park at the Blackstone Hotel in Chicago, with arrival dates of August 1 and August 3 and check-out dates of August 6. The four-day festival took place from August 2 to 5 at Grant Park and drew more than 400,000 attendees — including former first daughter Malia Obama. It too boasted artists like Muse, Lorde, Blink-182, Chance the Rapper and The xx, as well as the Killers and Arcade Fire.

According to TMZ, Paddock specifically requested that both rooms at the Blackstone had views facing Grant Park. Their sources say that neither Paddock nor his girlfriend had previously stayed at the hotel.

Since the tragic terrorist attack in Las Vegas, the Route 91 Harvest festival has issued an official statement, condemning the "senseless violence." Las Vegas native Brandon Flowers of the Killers also spoke out about the event, saying that he is "devastated for my community."
