Kurt Cobain's iconic cardigan from Nirvana's MTV Unplugged performance is once again being auctioned off. This marks the second time the piece of rock'n'roll memorabilia has hit the auction block in four years — and it still apparently hasn't been washed.
Julien's Auctions announced today that the olive green sweater and a custom Fender guitar built in 1993 that Cobain used during Nirvana's In Utero tour will both be auctioned this month. Apparently, the fact the piece of clothing has yet to be washed is a big selling point.
"It's very important that we don't wash it," Darren Julien of Julien's Auctions told Rolling Stone. "The stains are still there. There's even cigarettes burns that you can see on the sweater."
Back in 2015, the cardigan — "a blend of acrylic, mohair and Lycra with five-button closure (one button absent), with two exterior pockets, a burn hole and discoloration near left pocket and discoloration on right pocket" — sold for $137,000 USD at auction. Earlier this year, another Cobain cardigan from the In Utero era also sold for $75,000 USD.
The current owner of the MTV Unplugged sweater is apparently a businessman who prefers to remain anonymous.
The cardigan will hit the auction block on October 25, and the pre-auction minimum bid of $200,000 USD has already been matched. It's expected to sell for upwards of $300,000 USD.

As for that guitar owned by Cobain, it is a turquoise-bodied left-handed Fender Mustang that was on display for several years at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It is expected to fetch between $300,000 and $500,000 USD.
