Following the release of their Sub Pop debut LP Cooler Returns, Toronto's Kiwi Jr. have announced plans for an accompanying comic book.
The 24-page comic is filled with the album's lyrics illustrated by cartoonist Dmitry Bondarenko and features nods to several Toronto landmarks, including the Dufferin Mall, TTC streetcars, the CN Tower and Honest Ed's (may it rest in peace). The book is available to order through the group's Bandcamp, and they'll also be selling it on their upcoming tour.
"To see all of the insanity of our lyrics represented visually is wild," singer/lyricist Jeremy Gaudet said in a statement. "There's stuff I saw in here that surprised even me, and I wrote the damned thing."
Kiwi Jr. will have extra opportunities to share the special release with fans, as they've just announced a run of new tour dates, including stops in Toronto, London, St. Catharine's, Hamilton, Ottawa, Charlottetown and Halifax starting in November. The group will also make an appearance at this weekend's River & Sky Festival.
To celebrate all the upcoming action, Kiwi Jr. have also shared footage of a recent live recording at Seattle radio station KEXP. Watch that below, where you can also find images of the Cooler Returns comic book and the band's full touring schedule.
