King Khan, Mark Sultan and the Black Lips Are the Almighty Defenders

As we told you back in April, garage punk guru Mark Sultan recently collaborated on the ultimate supergroup with King Khan and the Black Lips in Khan's home in Berlin. Now, the project has been the name the Almighty Defenders, and their debut record will be out this fall.

Vice Records will be putting out the self-titled album on September 22, and according to a press release it's "brimming with soul, earnest shouts, cries and hand-claps over post-modern gospel-rock anthems."

Clad in gospel robes, the six-piece group played their first show at NXNE on June 17 in Toronto. And while their day jobs in Black Lips and King Khan & BBQ Show are keeping them pretty busy, we're keeping our fingers crossed that the fall release of their record will force some North American touring.

The Almighty Defenders tracklisting:

1. "All My Loving"
2. "The Ghost With the Most"
3. "Bow Down and Die"
4. "Cone of Light"
5. "Jihad Blues"
6. "30 Second Air Blast"
7. "Death Cult Soup n' Salad"
8. "I'm Coming Home"
9. "Over the Horizon"
10. "She Came Before Me"
11. "The Great Defender"
