Kimya Dawson Gets the Strokes' Nikolai Fraiture, Mountain Goats' John Darnielle and Aesop Rock for 'Thunder Thighs'

Kimya Dawson has been delivering lo-fi folk on her own and with the Moldy Peaches for a decade now, and has more tunes in store for us this fall via her newly announced album, Thunder Thighs.

A press release states that the disc, her seventh solo set, finds her slightly glossing up her approach, explaining that Dawson's "lo-fi sound has taken a delightful turn with the addition of pianos, backing choirs, string arrangements and several beats produced by rapper Aesop Rock."

Billed as Kimya Dawson and Friends, it's no surprise to find out there are more than a few collaborators involved on Thunder Thighs. On top of Aesop Rock's beat work, other participants include John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats, Nikolai Fraiture of the Strokes, Bryan Danielson, Forever Young Senior Citizen Rock and Roll Choir, Olympia Free Choir, and Dawson's five-year-old daughter Panda.

You can see a clip of Dawson strumming album opener "All I Can Do" on her acoustic guitar for some chickens and her daughter down below. "The first track of the album acts as a musical snapshot of Kimya's life, and is the perfect introduction to her latest release," the press sheet says of the autobiographical number.

Thunder Thighs comes out October 25 via Burnside Distribution.
