Kevin Morby of the Babies/Woods Goes Solo with 'Harlem River'

Kevin Morby sings and plays guitar in the Babies and mans the bass for Woods, but he will be branching out this fall by releasing his first-ever solo album. Harlem River will arrive on shelves on November 26 through Woodsist.

Although Morby hails from Kansas City and resides in Los Angeles, a press sheet notes that the album is an homage to his adopted home of New York City. Mixing the imagined with the personal, the disc reportedly "features eight interweaving tales of tragedy and misfortune; a series of desperate characters playing out their dramas with the city as backdrop."

The album was recorded this past February and March in Los Angeles with producer Rob Barbato (La Sera, Bleached, the Babies). It features White Fence/Darker My Love visionary Tim Presley, Babies drummer Justin Sullivan and Welsh songwriter Cate Le Bon.

The new sound is said to be a departure from Morby's past projects. For a taste of this, stream the vintage-flavoured "Miles, Miles, Miles," which shifts from a dreamy waltz to a slightly more perky pop ditty.
