The MTV Video Music Awards are set to take place on August 27, and this year's nominees have just been revealed.

Inheriting Beyoncé's 2016 throne, Kendrick Lamar is the most-nominated artist, earning eight nominations for "HUMBLE." Katy Perry and the Weeknd also racked up an impressive five nominations each.

The coveted Video of the Year title will be a face-off between Lamar's "HUMBLE.," Bruno Mars' "24K Magic," Alessia Cara's "Scars to Your Beautiful," DJ Khaled's "Wild Thoughts" (ft. Rihanna and Bryson Tiller), and the Weeknd's "Reminder."

Lamar, the Weeknd and Mars will be joined by Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and Lorde to duke it out for the title of Artist of the Year, while Best New Artist noms are sure to further boost the profiles of nominees Khalid, Kodak Black, SZA, Young M.A., Julia Michaels and Noah Cyrus.

In the genre-specific categories, Coldplay, Fall Out Boy, Twenty One Pilots, Green Day and Foo Fighters are up for Best Rock Video, while Lamar, Big Sean, Chance the Rapper, D.R.A.M., Migos and DJ Khaled are up for Best Hip Hop Video. Best Pop Video will be a battle between Shawn Mendes, Sheeran, Harry Styles, Fifth Harmony, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus, while Best Dance Video will pit Zedd and Alessia Cara, Kygo and Selena Gomez, Calvin Harris, Major Lazer, and Afrojack against each other.
