Kelly McMichael (f.k.a. Renders) Reminisces About 'Montreal' on New Single
Kelly McMichael previously went by the name Renders, but now the Peterborough-bred/St. John's-based songwriter is releasing a new single called "Montreal" under her own name.

The song contains some modern-sounding synth ambience, but it's mostly a very classic-sounding pop-rock cut, with aching guitar chords that evoke the tremolo-laden sweetness of "Crimson and Clover." It's a bittersweet soundscape for McMichael's poignant, nostalgic lyrics like, "We may have been messed up / And crossed some lines / But I think it was the best time / Best time of my life."

McMichael said in a statement to Exclaim!, "Dreamy nostalgia wafts over a mid-tempo groove, and I'm reflecting on the free, silly, frolickings of a trip long ago. Channeling the celebration of good memories and good friends is very soothing right now, so I chose to lead with this single."

McMichael's debut full-length is on the way. For now, hear "Montreal" below.
