Keanu Reeves Is Listening to Alvvays, Too

He's just like us

Despite his fear of deepfakes, Keanu Reeves remains courageous in agreeing with we at Exclaim! (by proxy, at least): apparently the actor is an Alvvays fan.

As if anyone needed any more reason to love him, the most wholesome man in Hollywood revealed a fondness for his fellow Canadians while partaking in the grand tradition of the Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) — which has garnered nearly 250,000 upvotes and over 30,000 comments — over the weekend. Reeves took to the r/movies subreddit under u/lionsgate, answering questions from fans in an effort to promote John Wick: Chapter 4 ahead of its theatrical release on March 24.

While the most popular among the actor's responses is his reaction to German scientists naming a fungi-killing chemical compound after him, u/theg721 lived up to their alias by being a total G and hitting Reeves with questions about music.

"Do you still play bass at all?" the user began before asking the actor to clear up a pretty legendary rumour: "Is it true that Kim Gordon borrowed your bass for one of Sonic Youth's videos? And that you and Mike Watt argued beforehand about whose bass she'd play in the video?"

They then added, "What bands have you been listening to recently?"

Reeves clarified the first three questions in one fell swoop, writing, "Yes, yes, no... Kim Gordon is cool, and so is Mike Watt!"

"I've been listening to Alvvays, Daughter, and Bill Evans trio," he added.

Daughter recently announced Stereo Mind Game, their first album in seven years. And if you've been sleeping, we named newly announced Alex G-co-headliners Alvvays' Blue Rev the best album of 2022 and interviewed East Coast-born frontwoman Molly Rankin about its genesis. Now the question is, what's Reeves's favourite track? Humbly, he seems like a big "Pomeranian Spinster" kind of guy to this writer.

Stereogum nabbed a screenshot of the actor's response (and correctly heralded him as a man of taste), which you can see below.
