Katatonia's Jonas Renkse and Pineapple Thief's Bruce Soord Team Up as Wisdom of Crowds

Classic Swedish metal crew Katatonia delivered their ninth full-length LP Dead End Kings in 2012, but singer Jonas Renske is taking his powerful pipes elsewhere this year for a new project with the Pineapple Thief's Bruce Soord called Wisdom of Crowds. The duo's self-titled debut disc drops June 3 through Kscope Music.

Not too many details have been revealed behind the project, but a press release explains that Pineapple Thief singer/guitarist Soord wrote the nine-song set with Renske's vocals in mind, and eventually reached out to the Katatonia singer about collaborating. Apparently things went well.

While proper teaser tracks have yet to be delivered, a grab-bag sampler of snippets is being streamed in both the audio player below and in a trailer that finds the pair perusing a computer screen. What you get in both is a tapestry of prog-tinged rock, scaly metal licks and one murky, '90s-style pop ballad around the 40-second mark that sounds a bit like Seal by way of Sade's "No Ordinary Love."

You can check it out beneath the tracklisting.
