Karen Dalton's Unreleased Lyrics Recorded by Sharon Van Etten, Julia Holter, Laurel Halo

Much like Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, veteran folk singer Karen Dalton is set to be remembered by a project in which contemporary musicians complete unreleased lyrics.

The resulting album is called Remembering Mountains: Unheard Songs by Karen Dalton, and it will be out on May 26 through Tompkins Square. The label has gathered together some notable artists to perform the tunes.

Contributors here include Sharon Van Etten, Julia Holter, Laurel Halo, Marissa Nadler, Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffin, Tara Jane O'Neil, Isobel Campbell (formerly of Belle and Sebastian), Laurel Halo and more. See the 11-song tracklist below.

These lyrics were provided by Peter Walker, who oversees Dalton's estate. Interestingly, of the two albums that Dalton released in her lifetime — 1969's It's So Hard to Tell Who's Going to Love You the Best and 1971's In My Own Time — neither included any original songs. Dalton died in 1993 and has since been remembered with a series of posthumous releases.
