Following a lot of controversial activity throughout the last week — including announcing his run for president, as well as his anti-vaxxer, anti-abortion stanceKayne West's family is reportedly concerned that the rapper is in the middle of a "bipolar episode."

According to TMZ, Kanye might be experiencing a mental health crisis that has affected his ability to make rational decisions, leading him to act sporadically in the public eye. The outlet also reports that he has also stopped taking his medication — something he has admitted to doing previously.

West has been forthcoming with his mental health struggles in the past, speaking at length about his condition with David Letterman back in 2019.

"When you're in this state, you're hyper-paranoid about everything," West said during the interview. "Everyone — this is my experience, other people have different experiences — everyone now is an actor. Everything's a conspiracy. You feel the government is putting chips in your head. You feel you're being recorded. You feel all these things."

To be clear, the symptoms of bipolar disorder do not include becoming an anti-vaxxer or pro-lifer — but can include depressive episodes, manic episodes and hypomanic episodes. The condition may also be characterized by "an exaggerated sense of well-being and self-confidence," "poor decision-making" and/or exhibiting "abnormally upbeat, jumpy or wired" behaviour.

Earlier today, tech billionaire Elon Musk retracted support for West's presidential campaign after learning about his problematic platform. Previously, he had tweeted out his full support of the rapper's bid.
