Kanye West has reportedly been hospitalized after police responded to a welfare check on the rapper earlier this afternoon (November 21).

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene around 1:20 p.m. PST (4:20 p.m. EST), and as TMZ and NBC News have reported, West was taken to UCLA Medical Center for observation and evaluation.

Buzzfeed reports that the incident was a "disturbance call that became a medical emergency call."

According to an NBC News source, the decision to transport West to the hospital was "for his own health and safety."

UPDATE (11/22, 12:30 p.m. EST): TMZ now reports it was Kanye's personal physician who called 911 when the rapper became violent at a gym and tried to assault a staff member. Dr. Michael Farzam reportedly used the alias of "Jim Jones" for Kanye when making the call and said the rapper "suffers from temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration."

After offering his controversial support for Donald Trump and disparaging Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Jay Z and Beyoncé at shows earlier this week, West cancelled the remaining dates on his "Saint Pablo Tour" this morning.
