Though best known as a veteran actress, Juliette Lewis is also a performer, having fronted Juliette Lewis and the Licks for three albums before branching out with a solo record of her own. Now, however, she'll lend her talents to a different project as the frontwoman for a new supergroup called Giraffe Tongue Orchestra.

The project was initially formed by the Dillinger Escape Plan's Ben Weinman along with Mastodon's Brett Hinds. They're joined by long-active studio bassist and Dethklok touring member Pete Griffin as well as former Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen.

Lewis was rumoured to be the band's vocalist for some time, and Weinman recently confirmed her role in an interview with Sirius XM. Weinman recalls watching her perform in a small club. "She doesn't need to be playing in front of 500 people on this shitty ugly club, you know?" he said of the actress's performance. "And here she is by choice in a grungy club with a dirty toilet just putting everything into it, so when we were thinking about singers and people to collaborate, all of a sudden I was like 'You know what? I think that could be cool.'"

Giraffe Tongue Orchestra are currently putting the finishing touches on their debut album with producer Steve Evetts.
