Journey have announced their first new album in 11 years, Freedom, which is due for release July 8 via BMG.

The 15-track album was conceived during the lockdowns of 2020, with founding member Neal Schon, without much else to do, "learning how to play keyboards and looping" from his home studio. "Some of those ideas ended up being songs. So it kind of came out of nowhere," he explained in a statement.

The band are previewing the effort today with new single "You Got the Best of Me," which Schon describes as a "punky rendition of 'Any Way You Want It.'" It follows the 2021 release of "The Way We Used to Be."

"I usually don't go in saying I'm going to look for something like that, but then it just came to me, like 'Wheel in the Sky' did years ago," he explained. "It just kind of flew out of my mouth."

Listen to that below, where you'll also find the album's tracklisting.

Journey's most recent release was 2011's Eclipse. The band has since undergone a personnel overhaul, after having fired drummer Steve Smith and bassist Ross Valory in the wake of Schon and Jon Cain filing a lawsuit against them in 2020. Randy Jackson — yes, that one — rejoined the band that same year.
