Fresh off releasing two new instalments of his highly collaborative Desert Sessions series, Josh Homme has expressed interest in getting back to work with drummer Dave Grohl and bassist John Paul Jones as Them Crooked Vultures.
The Queens of the Stone Age frontman was asked about a possible return to action by Rolling Stone, replying that "ultimately, these things happen when they're supposed to." The trio released their debut self-titled effort 10 years ago this month.
"The ironic thing is that we all want to do another Vultures record and I think everyone has certain roles they play in the Vultures," Homme told the magazine. "In all honesty, I feel like part of Dave's role — since he got it together the first time by saying, 'Hey, do you wanna try this?' — I feel like that's part of in his job description in Vultures. I have my various things that I'm supposed to do I think, but that isn't one of them. But I'm always ready to be in Them Crooked Vultures again. I don't chase, you know?"
Grohl had mentioned the possibility of a Vultures reunion over the summer in conversation with the Guardian, telling the site in August, "Technically we're still a band. We practice once every decade, and we're coming up on another decade, aren't we? I don't have any official news but there's always something cooking."
Homme's Desert Sessions Vols. 11 & 12, out now through Matador, feature Primus bandleader Les Claypool, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears, Royal Blood vocalist/bassist Mike Kerr, Autolux's Carla Azar and more.
Grohl has recently appeared on new solo material from Foo Fighters bandmate Taylor Hawkins. This past July, Jones formed new band Sons of Chipotle.
