Jonathan Wilson Gets Lana Del Rey and Father John Misty for 'Rare Birds' LP

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Dec 5, 2017

California singer-songwriter Jonathan Wilson has unveiled plans for a new record, and it finds him collaborating with a few high-profile guests. Titled Rare Birds, the record is due out on March 2 via Bella Union.

In addition to his own handiwork, the album features appearances from Lana Del Rey, Father John Misty, Lucius and Laraaji — all of whom contributed backing vocals. Lana Del Rey is credited on "Living with Myself"; Father John Misty on "49 Hair Flips"; Lucius on "Trafalgar Square," "There's a Light" and "Rare Birds"; and Laraaji on "Loving You."

The record was self-produced by Wilson at his Fivestarstudios in Los Angeles, and marks his first full-length since 2013's Fanfare.

"It is meant more as a healing affair, a rejuvenation, a reconciliation, for others, for me," Wilson said in a statement, rejecting the notion that it's a concept album. "I wanted to balance personal narrative with the need I feel in 2018 for calming healing music. I think we need whimsical surrealism, journeys in sound, psychedelic gossamer affairs."
