Jon Brion Signs On to Score New Judd Apatow Film

We haven't yet heard Jon Brion's contribution to the film ParaNorman, nor have we listen to his work on the forthcoming Best Coast album, but the busy composer/producer has already signed on to do another movie score. Brion's next gig will be writing the music for the new Judd Apatow film This Is 40.

The film is a sequel of sorts to 2007's Knocked Up, with Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann reprising their roles as Pete and Debbie (who were secondary characters in the prior movie). Directed and written Apatow, the film catches up with the two characters a few years after Knocked Up, and the plot reportedly centres on Pete struggling with his job in the music industry while Debbie works in a dress shop.

The film also stars Jason Segel, Megan Fox, John Lithgow, Melissa McCarthy, Albert Brooks, Charlyne Yi and Chris O'Dowd, many of whom have appeared in Apatow ventures before.

Relatively little is known about the flick, and even less is known about what form Brion's contribution will take -- whether, for example, he'll be writing any songs or just providing background score -- but IMDB lists the release date as December 21, 2012, so all should be revealed before the year is out.
