Johnny Depp's Notorious B.I.G. Movie 'City of Lies' Pulled a Month Before Release

The Johnny Depp-starring City of Lies has been removed from the upcoming film release schedule just a month before it was supposed to hit theatres.

City of Lies was initially scheduled for release on September 7, but the release is now "undated," as Variety reports.

The film is based on the book LAbyrinth and tells the story of the police investigations into the deaths of rappers Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac. Depp plays LAPD detective Russell Poole and stars alongside Forest Whitaker, who plays a journalist also investigating the murders.

Last month, Depp was sued for assault and battery by the film's location manager Gregg "Rocky" Brooks. Depp allegedly verbally and physically assaulted Brooks, then offered him $100,000 to punch him in the face. Depp was then carried off the set by bodyguards.

Depp previously faced allegations of domestic violence from his ex-wife Amber Heard. Those reports caused many fans of the Fantastic Beasts franchise to criticize Depp's casting in the upcoming sequel.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is due out on November 16.
