Johnny de Courcy Returns with 'The Master Manipulator EP'

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 12, 2015

Freaky Vancouver pop sensation Johnny de Courcy is leaving his city for Montreal. Before he bids farewell, however, he's got one more release on the way from his time spent in BC.

The artist will issue a new 27-minute EP called The Master Manipulator. It was recorded with Dada Plan's Malcolm Biddle at his Dada Plan Shed studio. There are intentional sonic limitations, as the release was recorded to quarter-inch tape with an eight-track machine.

A press release posits that The Master Manipulator picks up on the "freakier side" of de Courcy's last album Alien Lake

In addition to recording, Biddle also provides some back-up vocals on the release. The EP also features appearances from Phi Van, Mat Vass, Krysta Fur, Jo Passed, Ridley Bishop and Colin Cowan.

A tracklisting or release date has not yet been revealed, but JDC promises there's a cover of a classic from the Empire Records soundtrack.
