John Oliver Unearths Footage of Convoy Organizer Covering Disturbed's "Down with the Sickness"

"I will say this: it is hard to think of a song more thematically appropriate to her cause"

You know the timeline is dark when comedian, political commentator and Last Week Tonight host John Oliver takes aim at the sociopolitical situation in Canada — which he refers to as "the Santa Claus of countries" — with his signature wry observations.

Yes, of course this is about the convoy.

"It is worth noting that some of the organizers of this protest have strong views about issues other than COVID mandates," Oliver pointed out in this week's episode of the show before introducing viewers to Medicine Hat's Tamara Lich — a former fitness instructor and leader within far-right groups like the "Wexit" separatist movement. She was arrested a few days ago for her role in organizing the freedom convoy, with a yet-outstanding bail decision.

Oliver then revealed that Lich also sings with a local bar band called Blind Monday and provided clips of her performing Disturbed's nu metal classic "Down with the Sickness" back in 2018.

"I will say this: it is hard to think of a song more thematically appropriate to her cause than 'Down with the Sickness,'" the comedian remarked, adding: "except for maybe [Céline Dion's] 'My Heart Will Go On,' in that it's Canadian and also inextricably linked with completely avoidable tragedy."
