Jim O'Rourke Teams Up with Merzbow for One Bird Two Bird

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 16, 2011

Experimental music maven Jim O'Rourke lives to collaborate. From his stint with alterna-rockers Sonic Youth, to his work with electronic musician Christian Fennesz and Peter Rehberg as Fenn O'Berg, to his rockin' Loose Fur project with Wilco main man Jeff Tweedy, the guy just loves to bounce ideas off his friends. A couple weeks back, we pointed to the Plastic People Vol. 1 record, which pairs O'Rourke with German musician Christoph Heeman, but it looks as if there is yet another O'Rourke collaboration to look forward to this year.

As Pitchfork reports, O'Rourke has teamed with legendary Japanoise pioneer Masami Akita (aka Merzbow) and Swedish free-jazz saxophone player Mats Gustafsson for a new record called One Bird Two Bird. The record, which collects a 2009 Tokyo studio session the trio took part in, will be released in a limited run of 500.

Editions Mego will issue the set April 11 in Europe and April 26 in North America. You can check out the tracklisting below and the cover above.
